About Shailja

Shailja Awasthi, Founder and Principal of Shailja Awasthi, is an acclaimed interior designer, lifestyle products creator, and visual storyteller, who creates spaces that speak about the people who live and work in them. Nominated as one of the top 10 designers in India by Business World in 2018, Shailja is a one-of-a-kind creative force to be reckoned with. She has designed original delightful spaces that can best be described as magical and is intent on creating timeless stories, one exclusive space at a time. Her attention to detail is unparalleled when it comes to the creation of stunning designs, interiors, and décor.

Her design ethos is inspired by nature, science, art, mythology, and technology. She believes it is imperative to push boundaries and challenge established rules when it comes to all her work. Through mastery of her craft, Shailja births multi-faceted spaces and lifestyle products and advises on every aspect of a project from concept to delivery. Her design approach is meticulous and informed by explorations of form, function, material, texture, and colour. The process begins with a deep understanding of the project brief to align with client needs, followed by visualizing and imagining design outcomes and culminates in the creation and execution of physical spaces, furniture, artefacts, and lifestyle products.

Her portfolio includes design and execution for private homes, destination villas, apartments, commercial properties, treehouses, offices, co-working spaces, retail, hotels, restaurants, educational institutes, and healthcare facilities. She has worked with families, celebrities, sportspersons, real-estate builders, and corporate teams.

Shailja’s work has appeared in several publications including Design Essentia, India Today Home, Business World, The Tribune, Your Story, Deccan Chronicle, Hindustan Times Today, Silicon India, and Indian Age. Shailja has an MBA and currently serves as the President of the Real Estate Council for the Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WICCI), for the State of Karnataka, India.
